After leaving Shibu Onsen, I passed through
Shirane Kazan and Kusatsu to visit Shima Onsen.
- Shima Onsen resort is located among deep mountains and along a river, as often seen in other hot spring resorts in Japan.
- One of the main streets of Shima Onsen
- Sekizenkan hotel is the oldest building built as hot spring hotel in Japan.
- Gomusonoyu public bath is very small public bath and at most 2 people can take a bath at same time.
- Yakushido is also very old building builted in Edo period.
- I visited Shima Dam, located at the deepest part of Shima Onsen.
- Shima Lake is an artificial lake made by Shima Dam.
- Although the lake is not natural, the scenery is just beautiful.
- A view from the dam.
- There is another public bath near Shima Dam where many locals enjoy the hot spring.
Although Shima Onsen is not so popular as Kusatsu,
it has become one of my favorite hot springs
due to its lovely old buildings and landscapes.
